So I wasn't expecting all of the options for this V2 flowsaber, I mean it's a good thing, but I feel myself a bit paralyzed by the options. My main question is what would happen to the balance point of a Base Lit Core Flowsaber if I went with the Thin Wall blade thickness along with the Sparring Pommel? Seems to me this would be reducing weight on both ends of the saber, which might keep the balance where it needs to be while lowering the overall weight. First off, is this even a good idea? I can see that having a certain amount of mass would help with the inertia for doing flow arts. I'm just curious as to weather there's any tradeoffs, and if the balance point would indeed be in the same spot.
My gut is telling me to stick with "standard" everything, as I assume this was thoroughly tested for flow arts by the creators. But I'm curious if I can cut down some weight on the blade end and either go with a lighter pommel, or even a shorter hilt and still have that "sweet spot" balance.
Yes! Not only is what you're referring to a good idea, but we've started referring to this exact configuration preference as our Flowsaber Carbon "Ultralight" Configuration. This preference is sometimes combined with using a slightly shorter hilt size, such as our 14" carbon fiber hilt :) here is a link to the article which describes the various options, including the ultralight (last configuration option here): https://www.flowsaber.com/forum/flowsaber-carbon-questions/standard-configurations-for-flowsaber-carbon
The "ultralight" configuration combines the thin wall blade thickness with the sparring pommel to create a flowsaber that is an excellent lightweight option for flow arts or good for sparring with a thick wall blade. This makes it an excellent option for creating a "flow/sparring hybrid" configuration. Keep in mind that the standard flow type 2 pommel is also good for both flow and sparring :P it's just a personal preference that opens up quite a few more options because people like yourself sometimes prefer a different type of balance position and weight :) Let me know if you have any additional questions. Additional note, this configuration is also better for children. For kids wanting a sparring/flow hybrid configuration, we specifically recommend an 11-14" hilt paired with a thick or thin wall 22"-24" blade and a Type 1 Steel sparring pommel.
